This office is located in the Mission Bay District of San Francisco, an area that until recently was home to warehouses, a cement factory and vacant lots. Now rapidly developing, Mission Bay has welcomed a new campus of the University of California San Francisco, biotechnology firms, research centers, office buildings and high-density residential developments. For the wall treatments in the lobby, flat grain amber bamboo plywood was used to provide create a rich and handsome hue. To give the panels more definition, the architects etched grooves into the face of the panels at six-inch intervals. Stainless steel horizontal reliefs were integrated to create added interest and make room for the panels to expand and contract as needed.
