Plyboo Ceilings at Dwell on Design June-24-26
The beauty of Plyboo is now available for ceilings, it was announced today by Plyboo maker Smith & Fong Company. Visually stunning carved and textured Plyboo styles, including the Reveal Collection, Linear Collection, Sound Collection, and the new Linear Sound collection, create attractive, intriguing ceilings panels with visual motion and complexity, acoustic performance, and excellent sustainable credentials.
“Ceilings are often the largest exposed surface in a room,” said Smith & Fong President Angus Stocks. “They deserve materials that allow a designer to make the ceiling contribute aesthetically to the space. We’re excited to be able to offer these modern, innovative carved and textured panels for a broad range of ceiling types and configurations.” He adds that the use of Plyboo on ceilings extends the versatility of the panels that are already in use for wall panels, furniture, and millwork.
Plyboo Ceilings are multi-layered panels made from rapidly renewable bamboo that has been specially formed to produce unique colors and textures. By carving deeply into the layers of material, a complex pattern of mingling planes emerges, evoking modernism and stimulating the visual experience of movement. The Sound and Linear Sound Collections carry this strategy to even greater depth, carving fully through the panel to create surfaces that are even more visually intriguing and also offer acoustical control.
The Linear Collection features a vertically fluted face layer that is carved to reveal a uniquely graphic inner core. These intersecting surfaces harmoniously suggest the natural, tactile quality of a woven textile that is both curious and compelling.
The Linear Sound Collection features carving that perforate the panels, creating a deeply sculpted, rhythmic surface. It allows light transmission and air diffusion, and is acoustically transparent, offering options for Noise Reduction Coefficients up to 0.70 NRC.
The Sound Collection presents a luxurious smooth Plyboo surface punctuated by through-carving that provides visual interest and acoustic control.
The Reveal Collection displays interplay between the face layer and revealed inner core to create stunning visual effects.
Highly sustainable, Plyboo panels are made from 100% FSC-certified bamboo, which is rapidly renewable and free of added urea formaldehyde. The panels emit zero VOCs with chronic REL’s (reference exposure level) detected, and meet indoor air quality criteria for office, school, and residential applications.
Plyboo Ceiling panels are available in sizes up to 4 x 10 ft (1.2 x 3m), in ½ or ¾ inch (13 or 19 mm) thicknesses, and with Class B or Class C surface burning characteristics. Panels can be installed with metal ceiling grid systems with concealed, semi-concealed, or exposed grids. Installation with screws or special clip-system can be used with large panels and curved ceilings. Plyboo panels are fabricated with CNC equipment that makes customized panel designs practical.
